Quincy Acy finished with 16 points and eight rebounds and LaceDarius Dunn shook off a poor first half to finish with 17 points as No. 23 Baylor held off Texas Southern, 68-60, on Sunday.
A.J. Walton added 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Bears (9-3), who had dropped three of four before the holiday break.
Baylor struggled in the first half, shooting just 29 percent (7-of-24), including 2-of-12 from 3-point range. Luckily the Tigers were even worse, shooting 28 percent, allowing the Bears to sneak into the break with a 25-22 edge. Dunn went just 1-of-9 from the floor, 0-of-8 from beyond the arc, in the half.
Texas Southern (2-9) would not go away, keeping it within seven points and drawing as close as 59-57 when Travele Jones hit a pair of free throws with 2:26 remaining. But Walton came right back with a 3-pointer, and Baylor was able to hold the Tigers off down the stretch.
The Bears get one more pre-conference tuneup against Morgan State on Tuesday before opening the Big 12 slate at Texas Tech next weekend.
