Klay Thompson finished with 28 points and Faisal Aden added 20 points as Washington State easily handled Mississippi State, 83-57, Wednesday at the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu.
Washington State (9-1) hit half its shots from the field (31-of-62),including a 12-of-24 performance from 3-point land on the way to the win. The Cougars will face either Baylor or San Diego Thursday in semifinal action. The Cougars have won four in a row since a 63-58 loss to Kansas State on Dec. 3.
Mississippi State (8-3) held a 40-39 lead at half but collapsed in the second half. The Cougars outscored the Bulldogs 44-17 in the second half.
Kodi Augustus scored 19 points for the Bulldogs and Brian Bryant added 14 points. Mississippi State was 19-of-55 (34.5 percent) from the field and 8-of-28 (28.6 percent) from 3-point range.
