Justin Holiday and Isaiah Thomas each scored 20 points to lead No. 22 Washington to a 94-72 win over visiting Portland Monday.
Washington, the nation's highest scoring team, shot 57.7 percent from the field, including a sizzling 65 percent (13-21) from 3-point land.
Portland (7-3) is picked to finish in the middle of the pack in the West Coast Conference. But the Pilots have been impressive early in the season and hung tough with the Huskies until late in the second half.
Portland trimmed 15-point halftime deficit to 68-62 with eight minutes left, but the Huskies responded with an 11-0 and maintained a double-digit lead down the stretch.
Nemanja Mitrovic led four Pilots in double figures with 15 points.
Washington has won three straight since dropping consecutive games to
Kentucky and Michigan State at the Maui Invitational over the
Thanksgiving holiday. The Huskies (6-2) head to College Station, Texas Saturday to face the
Texas A&M Aggies, who have won 54 straight home games against
non-conference competition.
