Trent Lockett’s team-leading 19 points helped Arizona State avoid an upset at the hands of the University of Alabama – Birmingham in Saturday's 69-66 victory at Ned Wulk Court in Tempe, Ariz.
Lockett shot 9-of-14 from the floor and added seven rebounds and five assists. Ty Abbott chipped in 15 points and Kyle Cain 14 and six boards off the bench as ASU (1-1) shot 45.9 percent and committed just eight turnovers.
The game was tied 28-28 at the half, but UAB (2-1) took its biggest lead of the second half 50-42 on a 3-pointer by Quincy Taylor.
