Brandon Bass and Jason Terry had 17 points apiece and Paul Pierce scored 16 as the Celtics cut New York's series lead to 3-2. Game 6 of the best-of-seven series will be played in Boston on Friday.

Carmelo Anthony scored 22 points and Raymond Felton added 21 for the cold-shooting Knicks, who attempted to deliver an early knockout punch by scoring the first 11 points of the game. Anthony finished 8-of-24 while J.R. Smith missed his first 10 shots before nailing a pair of 3-pointers to spark a late rally.

Boston fought back from the early 11-0 deficit to pull within two points after one quarter before surging into a 45-39 halftime lead. Terry knocked down a pair of 3-pointers in a late burst to extend the lead to 69-60 entering the final 12 minutes.

The Celtics scored the first six points of the fourth to open their biggest lead at 75-60, and consecutive 3-pointers by Green made it 88-76 with 2:23 to play. New York gave the home fans hope when Smith's 3-pointer capped a 7-0 spurt and cut the deficit to five with 65 seconds left, but Garnett answered with a jumper and two free throws to ice it.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Smith, who was suspended for Game 4 for elbowing Terry in the face, scored 14 points on 3-for-14 shooting while not registering his first field goal until there was 2:48 to play. ... Bass' 17 points matched his total for the first four games for Boston, which was 11-of-22 from 3-point range and a perfect 17-for-17 from the free-throw line. ... Knicks F Steve Novak left the game with back spasms and did not return. ... If a Game 7 is necessary, it will be played Sunday at 1 p.m. at Madison Square Garden
