Hawks 124, 76ers 101: Josh Smith collected 28 points and 12 rebounds as visiting Atlanta crushed Philadelphia to snap a three-game slide.

John Jenkins added 21 points off the bench and Al Horford recorded 16 points and nine boards for the Hawks (43-36), who moved into a virtual tie with the idle Chicago Bulls (42-35) for the No. 5 spot in the Eastern Conference.

Thaddeus Young had 28 points and eight rebounds and Nick Young scored 19 off the bench as the 76ers dropped their third straight game by at least 19 points.

Atlanta used a 15-2 run through the middle of the second quarter to take control and did not trail the rest of the way. Smith’s two baskets in the final minute of the quarter gave the Hawks a 59-51 edge at the break.

Horford had six points during an 18-4 burst to begin the third quarter that pushed the lead out to 77-55. Horford’s jumper off a feed from Jeff Teague with 5:20 left in the game made it 113-88 and Atlanta cleared the bench.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Philadelphia had held five straight opponents to 92 points or less before the last three games, during which it has surrendered an average of 111.3. … Smith, Horford, Devin Harris, Kyle Korver and DeShawn Stevenson all returned to Atlanta's lineup after sitting out a loss at San Antonio on Saturday. … The teams combined to go 38-for-41 from the free-throw line.
