Mavericks 109, Raptors 104: O.J. Mayo and Chris Kaman scored 22 points apiece to lead host Dallas past Toronto for its third straight victory.

Vince Carter scored 17 points and Darren Collison added 15 to help the Mavericks start 4-1 for the first time since the 2007-08 campaign despite the continued absence of star Dirk Nowitzki.

Andrea Bargnani had 25 points and nine rebounds and DeMar DeRozan tallied 24 points for Toronto. The Raptors were without starting point guard Kyle Lowry, who injured his right ankle in Tuesday’s loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Dallas shot 46.4 percent from the field after recording back-to-back outings of more than 60 percent for the first time in franchise history. The Mavericks used a 36-point opening quarter to build a 12-point advantage and led by 11 at halftime.

Toronto trailed by 13 points with under seven minutes to play and made a run to move within 107-102 on a three-point play by Amir Johnson (18 points, 11 rebounds) with one minute remaining. Kaman responded with a basket with 41.4 seconds left to help the Mavericks hold on for their 12th win in their last 13 home games against the Raptors.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Dallas was without forward Shawn Marion (knee), guard Roddy Beaubois (ankle) and forward Elton Brand (wife giving birth) in addition to Nowitzki (knee). … The Raptors were hot from the free-throw line (27-of-31) but hit just 5-of-22 attempts from 3-point range. … The Mavericks had a 47-38 edge on the boards.
