Blue Jays 2, Yankees 0: R.A. Dickey tossed seven superb innings while Colby Rasmus and Rajai Davis hit solo homers to lift host Toronto past New York.

Dickey (13-12) overcame a shaky first inning to limit the Yankees to four hits while fanning eight. Sergio Santos threw a perfect eighth inning and Casey Janssen worked around Lyle Overbay's single in the ninth to lock down his 31st save.

Yankees starter Andy Pettitte (10-10) was the hard-luck loser after holding Toronto to a run on six hits over 6 2/3 innings. The defeat dropped New York 3 1/2 games behind Texas and Tampa Bay for an American League wild-card berth.

After Dickey escaped a bases-loaded jam in the opening inning, Rasmus broke a scoreless deadlock with authority in the fourth. The center fielder crushed a Pettitte curveball into the second deck in right field for his third home run in three games since being activated from the disabled list.

Davis doubled the lead in the seventh, greeting reliever Shawn Kelley with a blast to left. Dickey made the homers stand, retiring 15 of the last 16 hitters he faced before giving way to the bullpen after 101 pitches.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Toronto announced prior to the game that 1B Edwin Encarnacion will undergo left wrist surgery and has been shut down for the remainder of the season. Reliever and fellow All-Star Brett Cecil (elbow) also was shut down. ... Pettitte had won his previous three starts against the Blue Jays. ... New York leads the season series 13-4.
