Brian Goodwin's one-out home run in the eighth inning snapped a tie and lifted the Los Angeles Angels to a 4-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night in Anaheim, Calif.

Goodwin's fourth homer of the season stole the spotlight from the Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The 20-year-old son of Angels Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero was making his fourth start since being called up last Friday.

Guerrero went 0-for-2 with two walks and a strikeout and is hitting .214 (3-for-14).

Ty Buttrey (2-1), one of four Angels relievers, got the victory over Blue Jays reliever Ryan Tepera (0-1). Hansel Robles pitched the ninth for his second save.

Randal Grichuk had two of Toronto's five hits, while Goodwin and Andrelton Simmons each had two hits for the Angels.

Los Angeles starter Griffin Canning, making his major league debut, retired the first 10 batters he faced, including a strikeout of Guerrero in the second inning.

Freddy Galvis' one-out single in the fourth inning was the Blue Jays first baserunner, and a single by Grichuk and a walk to Justin Smoak loaded the bases.

A wild pitch by Canning allowed Galvis to score the first run of the game, but Canning worked his way out of the jam by retiring Guerrero and Rowdy Tellez.

The Angels rallied in their half of the fourth against Blue Jays starter Clay Buchholz, getting an RBI single from Tommy La Stella and a two-run homer by Jonathan Lucroy for a 3-1 lead.

Canning surrendered a leadoff homer to Brandon Drury in the fifth, and Toronto added a run later in the inning on an RBI groundout by Billy McKinney, tying the game at 3-3.

Canning gave up three runs on four hits and one walk with six strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings. Buchholz went five innings, allowing three runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
