Atlanta's Ozzie Albies hit his sixth home run, tied for the club lead, and rookie Mike Soroka posted another strong outing to lead the Braves to a 3-1 win over the visiting San Diego Padres on Monday.

Albies went 2-for-4 -- he's now hitting .406 (13-for-32) from the right side -- with a pair of RBIs to help the Braves win their second straight.

Soroka (2-1) pitched six strong innings and allowed one run on four hits with a career-high eight strikeouts. Soroka's control was in top form; he threw a first-pitch strike to the first 10 batters and walked only one. He retired the last nine batters he faced, six of those by strikeout.

Jerry Blevins got the first out in the ninth and rookie Jacob Webb retired the final two batters to earn his first career save.

San Diego starter Nick Margevicius (2-3) pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed three runs, one earned, on four hits and three walks. He left with the bases loaded in the sixth and reliever Adam Warren retired pinch-hitter Charlie Culberson on a hard liner to left.

The Padres got a run in the first. Greg Garcia and Franmil Reyes opened the game with singles. Garcia, starting at shortstop in place of the injured Fernando Tatis Jr., scored when Manny Machado grounded into a double play.

The Braves took a 2-1 lead in the third on an unusual play. Ender Inciarte singled with one out, but had to leave the game with right hamstring tightness. Soroka's sacrifice bunt was fielded by first baseman Eric Hosmer, who threw wildly to second base in an effort to erase Johan Camargo. Center fielder Manuel Margot overran the ball, which allowed Camargo to score and Soroka to reach third. Albies then singled in Soroka.

Atlanta added another run in the fifth inning when Albies hit a solo homer into the left-field stands.

First baseman Freddie Freeman failed to reach base for the first time all season, ending his streak at 27 straight games. That matched the Atlanta record for a season-opening streak.

The series resumes on Tuesday. Atlanta will send veteran right-hander Julio Teheran (2-3, 5.40) against rookie San Diego southpaw Chris Paddack (1-1, 1.67).
