Christian Yelich continued his dominance over the St. Louis Cardinals this season, setting career highs with three home runs and seven RBIs to lead the host Milwaukee Brewers to a 10-7 win Monday in the opener of a three-game series.

The seven RBIs tied a franchise record.

Yelich hit a three-run homer to cap the six-run second for Milwaukee, then added a three-run homer off reliever Mike Mayers (0-1) in the sixth to snap a 6-6 tie. His solo shot in the eighth made it 10-6.

Yelich is 9-for-16 against St. Louis this season with seven home runs and 15 RBIs in five games.

Mike Moustakas also homered for the Brewers, and Moustakas, Eric Thames and Yasmani Grandal had two hits apiece.

Milwaukee right-hander Freddy Peralta gave up back-to-back home runs to Paul Goldschmidt and Paul DeJong in the first inning. Peralta lasted just 3 1/3 innings, giving up three runs, four hits and three walks while striking out three.

Cardinals starter Dakota Hudson went 3 2/3 innings and allowed six runs, all in the second inning, on eight hits and three walks. He fanned three.

Goldschmidt, who came in hitting .413 at Miller Park with 12 home runs and 28 RBIs in 27 games, went 2-for-3 with two walks and two RBIs.

The Cardinals had come back from an early 6-2 deficit to get a run in the third, then tie the game with three runs in the top of the sixth.

After Dexter Fowler scored on a passed ball to make it 6-4, Goldschmidt and Marcell Ozuna followed with RBI singles, the latter making the score 6-6. All three runners were put on base by Alex Claudio, who gave way to Junior Guerra (1-0). Though Guerra allowed all baserunners to score, he got the win thanks to Yelich's second home run.

Ozuna also homered in the ninth of Josh Hader to make it 10-7.

Goldschmidt homered on the first pitch he saw from Peralta, and DeJong followed two pitches later with another to make it 2-0.

After center fielder Lorenzo Cain robbed Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter of a home run to end the top half of the second, Moustakas led off the bottom half with a home run. Ben Gamel and Peralta added RBI singles to make it 3-2.

Yelich's homer two batters after Peralta made it 6-2.

St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina drove in Goldschmidt with a one-out double in the third to make it 6-3.
