Jake Arrieta pitched seven strong innings, and Roman Quinn led the Philadelphia offense with three hits as the Phillies defeated the Boston Red Sox 3-1 Tuesday night at Fenway Park.

Maikel Franco had two hits, walked twice and scored two runs for the Phillies, who snapped a four-game losing streak. Carlos Santana also had a pair of hits.

Arrieta (9-6) allowed six hits and one run. He struck out seven, didn't walk a batter and threw 94 pitches, 66 for strikes. Arrieta needed just seven pitches in the seventh inning.

Tommy Hunter pitched the eighth, and Seranthony Dominguez earned the save with a shaky ninth. It was Dominguez's 11th save in 12 opportunities this season, though he put the first two runners by issuing a walk and then hitting Xander Bogaerts with a pitch.

Red Sox starter Drew Pomeranz (1-5) tossed five innings and gave up four hits and two runs. He walked four and fanned three. The Red Sox used five pitchers, with four relievers each throwing one inning.

Boston managed six hits, but no player had more than one.

The Phillies took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Jorge Alfaro hit a double to deep center field, scoring Franco, who had walekd.

In the fourth, the Phillies loaded the bases with one out and Scott Kingery lofted a sacrifice fly to center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. Franco tagged up and was able to elude Red Sox catcher Blake Swihart for a 2-0 advantage.

The Red Sox sliced their deficit in half with a run in the sixth when Bogaerts grounded out to third, scoring Swihart, who had singled and gone to third on J.D. Martinez's double. Ian Kinsler, who finished 1-for-4 in his Red Sox debut, lined out to right to end the inning, stranding Martinez at third.

Philadelphia loaded the bases with two outs in the eighth against Red Sox reliever Matt Barnes. Cesar Hernandez then struck out on three pitches to end the threat. In the past two games against the Red Sox, Hernandez went 0-for-9.

Santana added an RBI single to center in the ninth, scoring Rhys Hoskins for a 3-1 lead. Hoskins opened the inning with a double.
