Arizona right-hander Zack Greinke gave up one run and two hits in eight dominant innings and struck out a season-high 13 as the Diamondbacks broke a two-game losing streak with a 6-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday in Phoenix.

Nick Ahmed had a two-run triple and Jeff Mathis had a two-run single for the Diamondbacks, who leap-frogged Colorado into second place in the NL West.

Greinke (11-5) threw first-pitch strikes to 22 of the 27 batters he faced while extending a run in which he has given up five runs in his past 39 1/3 innings. He walked one, and his ERA fell to 3.05, the lowest it has been since his second start of the season.

Greinke gave up only one runner in the first five innings, a two-out walk to Nolan Arenado in the first inning, before Ian Desmond homered with one out in the sixth inning to break up the no-hitter.

Trevor Story had the only other hit off Greinke, a two-out single in the seventh inning.

A.J. Pollock and Steven Souza Jr. doubled with two outs in the first inning to give the Diamondbacks a 1-0 lead off Colorado right-hander Antonio Senzatela, who made his third start of the season. He was activated from disabled list before the game Sunday.

Souza, who went 1-for-3 with a walk, has hit safely in six of his past seven starts since being activated from the disabled list July 5. He has 10 hits and five walks in his past 32 plate appearances.

Senzatela (3-3) gave up five hits and four runs in 5 1/3 innings, with a season-high six strikeouts and two walks.

Jake Lamb walked with two outs in the fourth inning and Daniel Descalso grounded a single to right field. Ahmed lined a breaking ball toward the left field corner and past a diving Gerardo Parra for two RBIs and a 3-0 lead.

Desmond's 19th homer to the opposite field to right on a 2-2 pitch just got over the fence, over the Souza's leaping try.

Mathis' two-run single was the only hit in the Diamondbacks' three-run sixth inning that included three walks (one by Ahmed with the bases loaded) and an error by second baseman Garrett Hampson.
