Ryan LaMarre hit a pinch-hit single with one out in the 10th inning as the New York Yankees survived blowing a three-run lead and beat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-5 Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium.
The Yankees won their fourth straight and improved to 9-3 in their past 12 games when LaMarre batted for Brett Gardner and lifted a single to the warning track in right field off Ranger Suarez (4-3) to cap the four-hour, 17-minute marathon.
LaMarre's hit scored Gary Sanchez, who was sacrificed to third by Gleyber Torres. It also came as the Phillies deployed a five-man infield.
Brooks Kriske (1-0) pitched a scoreless 10th after the Yankees stranded runners at second and third in the ninth.
LaMarre's game-ending hit was necessary because Philadelphia came back from a 5-2 deficit when it sent nine men to the plate in the top half of the eighth against Zack Britton and Nick Nelson.
The Phillies drew four walks and got within 5-4 on a bases-loaded single by Luke Williams and tied the game when Ronald Torreyes scored on a wild pitch by Nelson.
Nelson loaded the bases again by walking Bryce Harper but kept the game tied when Andrew McCutchen flied out.
Giancarlo Stanton hit an RBI single and Rougned Odor hit a two-run homer in the seventh to give the Yankees a 5-2 lead.
Torres homered and Greg Allen hit an RBI double in the fourth inning after the Yankees survived an early 2-0 deficit. Allen and Tyler Wade also pulled off a double steal as New York stole three bases for the first time since Aug. 1.
New York's Asher Wojciechowski allowed two runs on three hits in four innings.
Philadelphia's Spencer Howard allowed a hit in three scoreless innings.
Jean Segura hit a homer on the game's first pitch and Harper had an RBI double in the third as the Phillies went 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position and lost consecutive games for the first time since a four-game skid June 20-25.
