Diamondbacks 8, Rockies 2: Paul Goldschmidt finished a triple shy of the cycle and collected a season-high five RBIs as host Arizona won the rubber match of the three-game series.
Matt Davidson belted his first career home run and Chris Owings registered his first major-league RBI for the Diamondbacks, who climbed within eight games of Cincinnati for the second National League wild-card spot with 14 contests remaining.
Goldschmidt, who went 4-for-4, opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI single and made it 3-0 in the third with a two-run homer - his 32nd of the season. The MVP candidate highlighted a three-run fourth with a two-run double before Davidson launched a solo blast in the fifth. Owings capped the scoring with an RBI single in the eighth.
Randall Delgado (5-6) allowed two runs and five hits over six innings as he snapped his seven-start winless streak. The left-hander, who walked one and struck out three, had not won since Aug. 2 at Boston.
Pinch hitter Charlie Culberson swatted a two-run homer while Jhoulys Chacin (13-9) yielded six runs - four earned - and seven hits over four frames for the Rockies, who completed a 2-7 road trip. Todd Helton received the day off after announcing his retirement at the end of the season on Saturday.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The 40-year-old Helton made his decision official following Saturday's loss. "I will miss the competition," he told the Denver Post. "I enjoy preparing, getting myself ready, and going out and battling. I don't know how I'm going to replace that." The five-time All-Star will retire as the Rockies' franchise leader in most offensive categories, including hits, homers, RBIs and runs scored. ... Goldschmidt leads the NL with 114 RBIs and trails Pittsburgh's Pedro Alvarez for the top spot in home runs by one. ... Colorado's DJ LeMahieu flied out as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning, ending his career-high 14-game hitting streak.
