Gallardo (5-2) won his third straight start after giving up two runs on five hits with three walks on 114 pitches.

John Axford worked around two singles to strike out the side in the ninth for his 10th save of the season.

Dustin Moseley (1-6) allowed two earned runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings for San Diego, which began an eight-game homestand. The loss dropped the Padres to 7-15 at home this season.

Ryan Ludwick’s eighth home run of the campaign gave the Padres a 2-1 lead after four innings, but the Brewers answered with two runs in the sixth and seventh innings to secure the win.

Making his second start of the season in center field, Kotsay went 3-for-4 with a double in the sixth inning that started the Brewers’ rally.
