Nick Markakis had three hits and knocked in four runs as the Baltimore Orioles avoided the sweep with an 8-5 victory over the visiting Detroit Tigers on Sunday afternoon.

Markakis, who came in 0-for-8 in the series, delivered a two-run homer in the first inning and added RBI singles in the fifth and sixth.

Jo-Jo Reyes (6-9) allowed four hits and one run over six innings to win his first game for the Orioles in his second start since being picked up on waivers.

The Tigers scored four runs off Kevin Gregg in the ninth before Jim Johnson came on to earn his second save.

Adam Jones had three hits and an RBI, and Nolan Reimold added three hits and three runs scored for the Orioles, who snapped a three-game losing streak.

Miguel Cabrera singled in the second for the Tigers to extend his hitting streak to 12 games. Austin Jackson had three hits and an RBI for the Tigers.

Detroit starter Doug Fister (4-13) allowed eight runs, six earned, on 12 hits over 5 2/3 innings. He has given up 13 runs, 10 earned, in 14 2/3 innings since being acquired from the Seattle Mariners.
